BAT PACKAGING INNOVATION TEAM IS LOOKING FOR APACKAGING DEVELOPMENT MANAGER II.
FUNCTION: Operations

LOCATION: Kuala Lumpur
ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
Develop, specify, deliver and manage the assigned cell’s operational Packaging Development activities for region’s Product Centre, in line with the cycle plan.
Reports to: Senior Packaging Development Manager
Reporting Level: Individual Contributor
Geographic Scope: APMEA Region (Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa)
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
Leadership
- Provide Technical expertise on packaging and materials specifications to internal and external partners.
- Work closely with project initiators, including Marketing, Operations, Lex, to scope any new packaging development project, and provide relevant information to project collaborators.
- Provide technical input and recommendations on all packaging development related matters, technical training and development.
- A member of the BAT ‘virtual’ Global Packaging Community, sharing print/packaging, and technical process, ideas and innovation; and chip in to the development of the best process.
- Lead, (assess and approve) print proofing with Brand Marketing.
Operational
- Ensure all new packaging developments specifications are delivered on time and aligned with Annex 1-3, and brand standards.
- Develop and acquire digital approvals and specification required for packaging materials by using appropriate processes, systems, methods, technologies and supply sources.
- Handle Repro houses for repro and origination.
- Handle colour approval for the respective packaging development, set embossing standards and material specifications for printing.
- Approvals process related to printed materials as internally specified.
- Close collaboration with operating companies and suppliers in the region – this will include travel to the respective locations.
- Handle the tooling production with suppliers aligned to BAT’s provided specification for all packaging materials: blanks, outer, inner frame, inner bundle, printed poly, tipping paper etc.
- Handle colour matching at the printers' press with Marketing for all kind of packaging materials to achieve the set standard and to enable the required volume print for BAT’s production (Packaging Qualification).
- Input and provide technical support for new supplier qualifications; Support with technical assessments for new suppliers.
Management
- Handle the generation and approval of all artworks from technical point of view for all SKU developments.
- Handle the packaging development costs with:
- Artwork agencies for the creation, risk assessment and development of packaging artworks and health warning templates.
- Tooling invoices from suppliers.
- Handle all new packaging developments on time, in full and aligned with Product Stewardship and brand standards.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- University degree in chemical science or equivalent experience, or technical background in Printing/Packaging Technology.
- Demonstrated ability of at least 5 years in packaging development (FMCG or other related industries) is desirable.
- Knowledge in Packaging technology and development, Printing materials and processes; Artwork creation & repro processes.
- Good communications and able to work with a variety of collaborators
- Excellent project management skills -ability to plan and lead multiple projects across functional levels.
- Excellent IT skills (word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project SAP). Ability to interpret analytical data and formulate conclusions and propose action plans.
- Flexibility to travel and work across different time zones
